The Dutch East India Company of Netherlands dominated trade and politics in the State of Cochin in the 17th and 18th Centuries after the Portuguese surrendered to them. This trip was arranged to meet up with Dr. Hugo K.s' Jacob, the Author of the book the 'Rajas of Cochin : 1663 - 1720'. which he had written, based on the documents of the Dutch East India Company, which are now preserved in the Archives at Den Hague.
He graciously gave me a tour of the Den Hague, the University of Leiden and a peek into the beautifully preserved world of Archives and his profoundly significant work. The documents in Old Dutch are being translated to New Dutch and then re-translated into English as and when deemed necessary. The ocuments from all the old outposts of where the Dutch had a presence, are archived here.
