Video Gallery - Short Film - Nairantharyam

Short Film - Nairantharyam. It is pronounced as  Nyran-tha-rium which means 'Continuum'. The Grandmother in the Movie, narrates the story of Raja Veera Kerala Varma (1809 - 1828), who had a Dewan, known to be extremely cruel and was an atrociously inadequate administrator. The Dewan was rumored to have murdered a member of the Cochin Royal Family. Kunnath Pattery, Subhadra Thampuran's husband, delivers a strongly worded letter to the British Authorities, who dismissed the then Resident . They appointed John Munro as the next Resident, who dismissed the Dewan and brought peace and prosperity to Cochin and the Cochin Royal Family. The Family continues to live on, so does the ties of the Pattery Family to the Royal Family. The lyrics are from the Sundara Kandam Paana, authored by Raja Rama Varma, the older brother of the Raja. This dark and macabre period in the history of the Family, which terrifies and  distresses the boy who listens to his Grandmother's stories, are conveyed beautifully through the art form of Kathakali.
